Growing Instructions
Kale is a cool-weather crop that grows best during the spring and fall seasons, but kale is hardy and can adapt to warmer weather. The plant requires fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the average last frost. Plant 2-3 seeds 1/4” deep per pot. Then, thin to 1 plant when true leaves develop. Keep the soil moist, but not wet. When the plants are 6” tall, transplant them into the garden. Space the plants 8” apart in rows 12-18” apart.
When direct seeding, plant the seeds from early spring to approximately 10 weeks before the expected fall frost. Plant 2-3 seeds 1/4” deep. Thin to 1 plant every 8” in rows 18-36” apart. If bunching, sow 2-3 seeds 1/2“ deep every 12-18”. Rows need to be spaced 18-36″ apart. Plants should be thinned to 1 per group.
