Planting Instructions

In short season areas, sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the average last frost. Sow seeds ½” deep in peat or coco core pots as roots do not like to be disturbed. Thin plants to 1 per pot. Transplant outdoors when nighttime temperatures are at least 65°F. Space plants 12-24” apart in rows 30-36” apart. If planting outside, sow seeds 2 to 3 weeks after the average last frost when nighttime temperatures are at least 65°F. If seeds are sown in cold, wet soil they will not germinate well.

Cucumbers require fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8. Dig 2-3” of compost and manure into the soil before planting. Plants require full sun. When watering, keep the plant moist, not wet. Apply 2-3” of mulch around the plant to suppress weeds and retain moisture. Plants can be grown on a trellis to save space.

To avoid damaging the plant when harvesting, use garden shears or scissors to snip the cucumbers from the vine. Harvesting often encourages the plants to flower. Check the plant daily, and harvest cucumbers once they have reached full size. Many cucumber varieties will begin developing a lighter color as they ripen. Do not allow cucumbers to become overly ripe on the vine, or the plant will stop producing.

Planting Depth: Sow seeds 1 inch deep directly into well-drained soil.
